Shooting enthusiasts may soon have a new place to sharpen their skills.

Eric Miller, owner of Dragonfly Holdings, is looking to build an indoor gun range and retail store just off Exit 7 on Interstate 89 in Warner.

The facility would be located on land currently owned by Webster resident Richard George on Warner Road. It would be the only one of its kind in the area, Miller said.

The proposal will go before the Warner planning board for a public hearing on Monday.

Miller, a recreational shooter, said the facility will break away from what he called the traditional “bravado nature” of the gun-owning industry in order to bring in novices, couples and women, who he said are the fastest-growing demographic of gun owners.

He said the shop will look “more like an Apple Store than a gun range, and that’s by design.” While the retail store will sell firearms, the range will be the main focus of the facility.

The proposal went before the Warner zoning board in early March and received strong community support, Miller said.

“My wife, who was in the audience, was touched by how many people came out of the community,” he said. “They were very passionate about it.”

If the plan is approved, and a purchase and sales agreement is reached with George, Miller said he would like to start construction in May with the project taking up to 26 weeks to complete.

The location does not abut any Hopkinton properties, but land use secretary Lois Lord said interested Hopkinton residents may speak during the public hearing after all abutters and Warner residents speak if they can make a case for having a direct interest in the project.
