The cable and internet company Breezeline, which recently completed its fiber-to-the-home installation in Concord and other New Hampshire communities, is preparing to expand into mobile phones, part of an industry trend in which companies combine various forms of communication and entertainment to lure customers.

The service will be provided through the National Content & Technology Cooperative, a buying cooperative that aggregates about 7 million customers across mid-sized and smaller operators. AT&T will be the wireless carrier.

Heather McCallion, Breezeline’s vice president of new business and business transformation, said the service would roll out in Connecticut in the next few weeks and be available in all 12 states served by Breezeline, including New Hampshire, before the start of summer.

“Mobile is really the next logical service we can add to our overall offerings,” she said.

Breezeline has not yet released pricing details. McCallion said it would be a bring-your-own-device system, without links to specific brands or makes of phones, and would be pay-as-you-go, without annual contracts.

In Concord, the rare community that has competing cable TV franchises, the move puts Breezeline in more complete competition with Comcast and its Xfinity service, which already includes mobile phones.

Consolidated Communications, the state’s biggest telephone company, also offers a fiber broadband service called Fidium, but does not have a mobile service.

Breezeline Mobile will be offered only to residential customers who also have the company’s internet service at home. That is a common  restriction for cable companies like Comcast with mobile service.

Breezeline offers voice calling through the internet but this service, known as VOIP, is targeted at businesses, McCallion said. The mobile service is “initially being released as a residential play, with business as a potential follow.”

Breezeline is the U.S. arm of Canadian firm Cogego Communications, formerly known as Atlantic Broadband. It offers cable TV and broadband internet. The company signed a cable agreement with Concord in 2021.

In January, Breezeline said it has completed building a fiber network, allowing fiber to the home in all its New Hampshire communities: Somersworth, Madbury, Dover, Durham as well as Concord. Breezeline says the 525-mile fiber network can reach “more than 45,000 homes and businesses.”
