A written threat on the wall of a girls’ bathroom at Concord High School led administrators to abruptly dismiss students Monday afternoon.

Administrators found a message saying that a shooting would take place at 2 p.m., according to Superintendent Kathleen Murphy. Concord Police say they were notified at “approximately 12 p.m.” and parents were notified at 1:18 of the early departure. By 1:25 p.m., dismissal was underway.

“Whenever it is felt that students are in danger,” Murphy said of the decision to send students home, “we will always err on the side of caution.”

It was unclear Monday afternoon how long the message had been there or who had written it, according to Murphy. Concord Police were at the high school and are investigating.

“We will find who did this,” Murphy said, “and there will be consequences for that action.”
