N.H. inventor gets funding on ‘Shark Tank’

New Hampshire inventor Laura Lady received $250,000 in funding on the TV show “Shark Tank” for her product, called FryAway in return for 22% of the company’s equity.

The show features entrepreneurs seeking investment from celebrity panelists. The segment was filmed in September and aired Friday. The Monitor incorrectly reported the results previously.

FryAway is a powdery mix that home chefs can add to leftover cooking oil or other fats and grease, turning it into a jelly-like substance that can be thrown away or composted instead of being poured down the sink. Cooking waste put down the drain can clog sewer pipes – in cities they can form huge “fatbergs” that block entire sewer systems – and badly damage septic systems.

Lady developed the powder’s proprietary formula through experimentation and began manufacturing it last year. She sells FryAway directly and through outlets, both online and in stores.
