The Dunkin' Donuts at 410 West St. in Keene temporarily closed "due to extreme filth and lack of cleaning," after the city conducted a routine food inspection Monday and ordered the closure.

Ryan Lawliss, a housing inspector with the city, told a reporter Monday afternoon he expects the restaurant to open Tuesday morning.

He said the inspection was conducted by Rob Allen, food establishment inspector, who noted multiple findings of unclean surfaces, spills and debris in spots. Cups and lids were also said to be stored in unclean racks.

Allen deducted 18 points total. Four alone were for hash browns being in contact with an unclean pan, according to the inspection record.

"Many surfaces unclean with debris, puddling liquids," Allen wrote about the establishment's surfaces that come in contact with food. "Most areas of floor with significant debris and spills. Multiple donuts on floor behind donut cases, coffee spills and beans behind prep counters. Cracked floor tiles."

A manager inside the Dunkin' Donuts Monday afternoon, where The Sentinel observed employees cleaning, declined to comment and referred a reporter to a Dunkin' media contact. A representative for the brand did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment Monday.

Lawliss said he and Allen returned to the Dunkin' Donuts Monday afternoon where they said employees had made great strides in cleaning and were given the greenlight to reopen Tuesday.

"The manager is eager to work with us to resolve this," Lawliss said. "They have a plan in place to do deep cleans on a regular basis."

According to Lawliss, he will conduct a follow up inspection Tuesday morning to ensure the establishment meets city standards.

The N.H. Secretary of State's Office lists this Dunkin' Donuts location as being owned by Bapa Network, which also owns the two other Dunkin’ locations in Keene, on West Street and Court Street.

There are other Bapa-owned Dunkin' Donuts establishments in the area in Hinsdale, Swanzey and Winchester. A representative for Bapa Network was not immediately reachable for comment Monday.

In November, the Bapa's 191 West Street Dunkin' Donuts was temporarily closed by the city after concerns over uncleanliness.

Jesse Rounds, community development director and acting health official for the city, could not be reached Monday for additional information on the inspection.
