Letter: It’s not about access to health care, it’s about expressing identity

I am the parent of a child who made gender affirming decisions before the age of 18. This issue is not about access to health care, it is about expressing identity. If we repress identity, how can we express joy and satisfaction? Do we want to be in the position as a state government to tell people what is and what is not okay in terms of identity?

I have never dictated what identity my child should have. I have been blessed to care for them to adulthood. Decades later, I am the parent of an amazing creative adult who is thriving in their identity of choice. Please stay out of the way and make decisions for yourself and not for others.
