Football

St. Thomas 20, Merrimack Valley 0

Key players: MV – Cam Chevarie, Colby Sheffer, Ryan Mognahan, Travis Garcia, Jed Duquette, Nolan Beck

Highlights: Beck blocked field goal at the end of the half to keep it 7-0 going into halftime, but the Saints scored a pair of touchdowns in the second half and the Pride couldn’t muster any offense of its own.

Souhegan 53, Hillsboro-Deering/Hopkinton 0​​

Key players:  HDH – Mason Nichols (27 yards on 10 carries), Michael McCaffrey (7 tackles, sack)

Highlights: The defending runner-up Sabers wasted no time getting a jump on the Redhawks, taking a 47-0 lead into halftime.

ConVal 25, Kearsarge 6

Key players: Kearsarge – Jason Dyment (TD run)

Highlights:  Dyment ran in a short TD up the middle to tie the game, 6-6, in the third quarter after ConVal went up 6-0 in the first, but ConVal put 19 points on the board in the final 12 minutes of the game to win the season-opening battle between two Cougar teams.

Records: ConVal 1-0; Kearsarge 0-1

Field Hockey

Pembroke 4, Milford 1

Key players: Pembroke – Ashlyn Barker (3 goals), Phoebe Morris (goal)

Highlights: Pembroke rebounded from two rough losses for a big win, with Barker scoring her first varsity goals to open a 2-0. Milford scored in the first minute of the second half to make it 2-1, but Barker completed her hat trick and Morris scored her first varsity goal for some insurance. Ava Strazzeri was key giving an offensive push from the defensive end of the field, while midfielders Meredith Kiander and Anne Phillips set up most of the scoring chances.

Girls’ Soccer

Merrimack Valley 2, Pembroke 1

Key players: MV – Colby Magoon (game-winning goal); Pembroke  – Lily royer (defense), Bailey Gatchell (goal), Lily Ricci (assist), Zoey Mayeu (defense), Jaylin Ladd (defense)

Highlights: The Spartans tied the match with 12 minutes remaining after MV notched a tally in the first half, but Magoon’s strike with less than three minutes remaining in the match gave the Pride the victory.
