Boys’ Soccer

Concord 1, Spaulding 0

Key players: Concord  – Ben Hughes (goal), Kaelen Williams (assist), Matthew Jenness (4 saves for the shutout)

Highlights: Hughes collected a throw in from Williams at the top of the 18, beat a defender and hit a shot to the far corner for the lone goal of the game.

Coach’s quote: “We played a solid game from beginning to end against a tough and well-organized Spaulding team. Our defense and midfield had their form tonight. Nicholas D’Agostino had a tremendous game in the midfield. He was the man of the match from the coaching staff. Jeremy Malette also had a strong performance in the back. We developed far more chances in the second half and were able to plug a few away. Once we got the second goal the guys played well to finish out the match. It was overall a more consistent effort from our players. We won far more 50/50 balls than in our last few matches which is positive. Highlights: After going down 1-0 in the opening minutes, the Hillcats turned the tide of the game and scored 10 consecutive goals, seven of them coming in the first half.

Highlights: Hopkinton led 4-0 at halftime, with Wuellenweber opening the scoring in the fifth minute off a corner kick. Condon knocked down the ball and served it back around to Wuellenweber, who buried it side netting from outside the box. Buss, on the eventual game-winning goal, tapped in a long throw-in from Windhurst.

Coach’s quote:  “The Hawks stretched their legs today and showed off the depth of their bench, as eight different players appeared on the score sheet. … Buss played a solid game all night at right wing, creating many scoring opportunities. Girls’ Soccer

Highlights: The Tide got out to a fast start, leading 3-0 at halftime, and played well throughout the entire match.

Coach’s quote: “I thought our girls played well today and got the job done. They did what was asked of them and that is huge in high school sports. Excited to see what this team can do in a big test Thursday at Goffstown under the lights on their new turf.” – Concord’s Andrew Mattarazzo

Coe-Brown 3, Pembroke 1

Key players: Coe-Brown – Somer Loto, (2 goals), Lily Wolf (goal), Katie Pease (11 saves), Alyviah Blad (defense), Kylie Prusia (defense), Maggie Escabi (midfield), Jennifer Noni (midfield), Abbey Franke (midfield); Pembroke – Lindsey Jones (goal)

Highlights: After a scoreless first half, Jones convereted a penalty with 18 minutes left in regulation to put Pembroke up 1-0 in the second half. Two minutes later, Lily Wolf connected on a shot from five yards outside the 18-yard box to tie the game at 1-1. With 14 minutes left, Loto found the far side of the net to give Coe-Brown the lead, 2-1. In the 70th minute, Loto converted a PK for Coe-Brown to seal the game, 3-1.

Coach’s quote: “This was a must-win (game) for us as a team and we needed a top end win after two early games with MV and Bow. We needed to build some confidence against a tough Pembroke team. Getting down with under 20 (minutes) left is never good, but to score three unanswered goals in under 16 minutes showed proved these girls have heart and won’t quit in a game. Highlights: St. Cyr had her second hat trick of the season, scoring the game-winning free kick with under a minute to go in the game. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Coach’s quote: “Trinity played a much better brand of soccer than us today. We luckily got the win, but it was a worrisome game. Trinity coach, Mike Martinez had his team were very organized and ready to play well today.” – Hopkinton’s Mike Zahn

Field Hockey

John Stark 6, Plymouth 0

Key players: John Stark – Jillian Fredette (4 goals), Lauryn Guevin (goal, assist), Caylin Worthen (2 assists), Olivia Worthen (goal), Claudia Dustin (assist), Mac Niquette (assist), Hailey Brisson (assist, defense), Adie Bolduc (defense), Addy Pelletier and Edie Fischer (one save each in combined shutout)

Highlights: The Generals tallied three goals in the second quarter to surge to a commanding lead and got a total team effort with 21 players seeing significant minutes.

Coach’s quote: “We were trying some different forward alignments today to get our scoring going and the combination we had in the second quarter was lights out. Was thrilled we could get 21 kids a lot of varsity minutes today, as this was only our third game. Overall a great team effort today.” – John Stark’s Dennis Pelletier

Hollis-Brookline 2, Merrimack Valley 1, OT

Key players: MV – Lauren Bailey (goal), Kaiya Mercier (midfield), Julia Michael (defense), Caroline Wheeler (defense), Taylor Gionet (6 saves)

Highlights: Hollis Brookline scored halfway through the first quarter on a rebound after an initial save from Gionet. Bailey scored in the third quarter with 9:10 left to play off a penalty corner. The Cavaliers capitalized on an open shot in the circle with 33 seconds lefts in overtime to claim the win.

Coach’s quote: “Today’s game was a tough and physical contest. Hollis-Brookline did a good job of shutting down our passing lanes and made us adjust. I felt we got a slow start, but overall I am happy with the way we performed today.” – MV’s Jen Colgan

Pembroke 3, Sanborn 0

Key players: Pembroke – Ashlyn Barker (goal, assist), Phoebe Morris (goal, assist), Leah Dugas (goal), Carlee LePage (midfield), Bria LePage (midfield)

Highlights: The Spartans had constant pressure throughout the game. Barker and Morris each scored in the first half to put the Spartans on top, 2-0. Dugas scored her first varsity goal with 3:10 remaining in the game.

Bishop Brady 3, Hopkinton 0

Key players: Bishop Brady – Payton Bryson (goal, 2 assists), Laura Yap (goal), Kylee Potter (goal), Camdyn Despres (assist), Ava Archambault (5 saves); Hopkinton – Crissy Johnson, Maddie Dwyer 

Highlights: The Giants hadn’t played since Sept. 5 and the Hawks hadn’t played since Aug. 31 so it was a sluggish start for both teams. Brady got on the board in the second quarter with 2:44 left with Yap scoring off a corner with assists from Bryson and Despres. Bryson scored off an assist from Despres with 44 seconds left in the half to go up 2-0. Bryson capped the scoring in the third quarter, tipping in a pass from Potter.

Highlights: Surprenant carded three birdies for a season-low 34 to lead the Pride to second place in a four-team match at Pembroke Pines.
