Tuesday, June 27th, 4:30-6 p.m. at Gibson's Bookstore, 45 South Main Street, in Concord. No registration required, drop-in event. https://www.gibsonsbookstore.com/event/makechnie-allen Kari Allen and Amy Makechnie are back again with new books! Local teacher Kari Allen will be in the store signing copies of her third Maddie and Mabel early reader, Maddie and Mabel Know They Can*, with local author Amy Makechnie signing her new middle grade novel, The McNifficents**, from 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m., and we'd love if you swung by sometime in those 90 minutes to say hello, congratulate them, and maybe buy a book for them to sign! If you have already preordered a copy (thank you!), now would be a convenient time for you to come give Kari or Amy a hug or a high five. This will not be a traditional seated author event, as kids get fidgety and family schedules can be tight during the week.
Join in behind Wesley United Methodist & First Congregational Churches at 79 Clinton Street, in Concord on July 29 at 6:00 p.m. for a concert by the Wholly Rollers. Kids are welcome to use the adjacent playground while you watch the concert. This concert is rain or shine. If the weather is looking iffy, we'll move it inside at the back of the church building. The 2023 Brigade Lecture Series continues with “Lincoln and His Cast of Characters,” presented by Matt Fisk, educator and assistant principal of Bow High School, on Wednesday, May 24 at 2:00 pm. The Brigade Lecture Series is held in Concord at the Pierce Manse—the historic home of President Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the United States. Brigade Lecture Series programs are free and open to the public. Abraham Lincoln is often credited with providing the leadership the Union needed to emerge from the Civil War as one nation. However, along the way Lincoln had to overcome lieutenants whose incompetence, insubordination, and military failures put the outcome of the war into jeopardy. During this presentation, we will hear about some of the characters and personalities that Lincoln dealt with during the course of the war and how those characters both supported and detracted from the Union war effort.
