Gilmanton African American Soldiers & Sailors of the American Revolution

Join the Gilmanton Historical Society on Tuesday, Sept. 26 for a presentation on African American Soldiers & Sailors of the American Revolution. Prohibited from serving in revolutionary military units, how is it that these soldiers still came to fight for the cause of independence even when their own personal liberty was not guaranteed? Glenn Knoblock examines the compelling history of these brave soldiers. The program, at the Old Town Hall on Route 140 in Gilmanton Iron Works, begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. Social hour and refreshments begin at 6. All are welcome. Concord New Hampshire Big Read – A Year Under the Stars

This coming Saturday, Sept. 2, the night of the autumnal equinox, the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center and New Hampshire Humanities will host “A Year under the Stars.” Whether you’ve read The Bear yet or not, bring the whole family for this special event and watch the Planetarium show depicting the stars, moon phases, and seasonal constellations in ‘The Bear,’ enjoy a special presentation by Ben Kilham, founder and bear caregiver at the Kilham Bear Center, visit the Discovery Center’s observatory and view the stars, planets, and nebulae through a telescope, and participate in additional activities. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, 2 Institute Drive, in Concord, with the Planetarium show at 6:15. This event is free and open to the public but pre-registration is strongly recommended.

Tilton Lakes Region Art Gallery hosts special exhibit

The Lakes Region Art Association Gallery will be hosting a special exhibit by artist Teresa D’Esopo Spinner at the Lakes Region Art Gallery, Tanger Outlets, 120 Laconia Road, in Tilton. Teresa D’Esopo Spinner, a native of New Haven, Conn. began her art career at the Whitney School of Art. Teresa established her artistic reputation during her travels around the United States and Europe. Throughout her broad experience in various artistic endeavors, Teresa always comes back to a love of painting custom portraits. The public is invited to attend her exhibit, which opens at the LRAA Gallery at 120 Laconia Road, Tanger Outlets Suite 300, in Tilton on Thursday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. and runs through Oct. 1.

A “Meet and Greet” Reception will be held on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the LRAA Gallery. Gallery hours are Hours: Thursday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. For more information about the Gallery, visit the website LRAANH.org
