Bow and Dunbarton Troop 75 is participating in the annual Scouting for Food drive on Saturday, Nov. 4. Bow residents, please place your food donation in a bag by your mailbox before 8 a.m. and the scouts will collect it. Dunbarton residents can bring food donations to the transfer station or town center between 8 a.m. and noon. Scouts will also be camping at the Bow town gazebo that weekend for drop offs. They are also accepting monetary donations for food purchases. Donations can be made at bowscouts.square.site through Thursday, Nov. 2. They cannot accept expired food, perishable items, glass jars or opened items.
The First United Methodist Church of Gilford is seeking vendors to participate in the annual Holiday Fair on Saturday, Nov. 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is always a very popular event and a great opportunity to sell handmade or commercial goods. The Sanbornton Pavilion Project Committee is a nonprofit charitable organization comprised of Sanbornton residents seeking donations and raising funds to build a gathering place for the community to enjoy outdoor events in Sanbornton. Their goal is to build a pavilion/gazebo with donated funds only as they do not want any taxpayer dollars to be used (exact size and shape of structure to be determined by the amount of funds raised and community input). The structure will be placed in the field behind the Sanbornton Public Library and Old Town Hall. (Placement will be determined by the Town) Ways to help include joining the committee meeting one night a month, purchasing an engraved brick with your family name engraved on it, a business name, or in memory of a loved one or a pet. A 4” x 8” brick costs $50, an 8” x 8” costs $100 and a 12” x 12” costs $135. You can also buy raffle tickets for a chance to win $300 1st prize, $100 2nd prize and $50 3rd prize. 500 tickets will be sold, at $5 each. Donations are helpful, and tax deductible! The Poetry Society of New Hampshire joins Gibson’s Bookstore to present poet Matthew E. Henry on Friday, Oct. 20, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Gibson’s Bookstore, 45 South Main Street, in Concord for an evening of verse. Dr. Matthew E. Henry is the Boston-born author of the full length collections the “Colored” page (Sundress Publication, 2022) and “The Third Renunciation” (New York Quarterly Books, 2023), the chapbooks “Teaching While Black” (Main Street Rag, 2020) and “Dust & Ashes” (Californios Press, 2020), and the micro-chapbook have you heard the one about…? (Ghost City Press, 2023). Henry is editor-in-chief of “The Weight Journal”, an associate poetry editor at Pidgeonholes, and is the 2023 winner of the Solstice Literary Magazine Stephen Dunn Poetry Prize. There is no registration required for this event.
