Highlights: Guevin opened the scoring in the first, followed by Brisson’s goal. The Generals’ defense was impenetrable in the first half, giving John Stark a 3-0 halftime lead. The Cavaliers started to crack the Generals’ defense some in the second half but couldn’t get the ball into the net. Fischer and Pelletier combined for the shutout in goal.

Highlights: The Hawks held off the Royals in the first half and took control in the second with three goals. Linstad made nice runs with the ball before laying it off for Murphy to finish in the 43rd and 76th minutes. Wuellenweber assisted on Boyle’s goal in the 53rd minute, withstanding challenges by several Mascoma defenders, but Boyle refused to get dispossessed.

Highlights: The Pride took a 1-0 lead late in the first half off a nice through ball, but Coe-Brown tied the game before halftime following a breakdown in the MV defense. The Pride converted a penalty kick midway through the second half to secure the win.

Coaches’ quotes: “It was a messy first game, but I’m proud of our girls. They worked hard against a physical and talented Coe-Brown team. “Games can be a wild ride of emotions and reactions to the flow of a game. We didn’t adapt well to the inconsistent flow of the game, and Merrimack Valley was on the receiving end of those inconsistencies. To their credit, they played as a cohesive unit. Highlights: Grant scored off a penalty kick in the sixth minute and Thorpe redirected a corner kick in the 31st to make it 2-0. Grant scored four minutes later with a shot off a throw-in. Kearsarge led 3-1 at halftime, and Stevens scored to cut the Cougar lead to 3-2, but Boucher made several saves in goal and Wiemer put the game out of reach in the final minute with a beautiful shot from beyond the 18.

Highlights: Moser ran to her first high school win and Geddes gave the Pride a solid 1-2 punch on its home course, but John Stark had more depth to claim the team victory via the tiebreaker rule (best sixth runner). Cote ran a personal record in the first race of the season.

Coach’s quote: “The girls really exceeded expectations today, just losing on a tiebreaker to John Stark. Lily and Maddy ran great to finish 1-2, while Keira had one of the races of the day to finish an unexpected fourth on the team.” – MV’s Dave Irving

Highlights: The Spartans had three athletes run at the 14-team Jamie Martin Invitational hosted by Sanborn Regional High School but didn’t have enough runners for a team score.

Key players: Pembroke – Caleb Saturley (35th, 20:04), Samuel Nereson (46th, 20:34), Dacota Hewitt (74th, 22:11); ConVal – William Simard (1st, 16:40)

Highlights: Pembroke finished 11th out of 14 teams at the Jamie Martin Invitational hosted by Sanborn Regional High School. Windham (40) placed four runners in the top 10 to easily win the meet, with Goffstown (102), Hollis-Brookline (106), ConVal (116) and St. Thomas (140) rounding out the top five.
