Lafayette’s Final Tour Reenactment coming to Pembroke

The Pembroke Historical Society and the Friends of the Pembroke Town Library will host one of New Hampshire’s Reenactments of the Final U.S. Tour by the Marquis de Lafayette, the French nobleman who fought on the side of the Colonists in the American Revolutionary War. The event will be held on Saturday, June 21 – 200 years to the day of his 1825 visit to Pembroke – at 6 p.m. at the Town Library at 313 Pembroke Street.

Zonta Club of Concord awards local scholarships

Zonta Club of Concord presented thousands of dollars in scholarships to seven New Hampshire women and girls at the start of June. The awardees across the state include Annabelle Cattabriga of Dunbarton, Preesha Chatterjee of Bow and Valerie Lingner of Loudon.

As a proud Concord Rotarian and PR Chair, co-founder of Queen City Improv and a national performer, Cady brings creativity and connection to every role she takes on. She travels the country singing the national anthem at marathons through her initiative, “Cady Sings & Strides,” and was named to the Union Leader’s 40 Under Forty Class of 2021.

The very last day of May this year surprised me: we got three inches of rain in a little over 12 hours. Although not unheard of, it came after a month when we often got an inch or two of rain over a two- or three-day period. The ground is soggy, our brook is overflowing … and we have no way of knowing if the summer will continue wet or turn hot and dry. White Mountain art exhibition makes new home at New Hampshire Historical Society

The New Hampshire Historical Society’s newest exhibition, “A Legacy of Landscapes: Selections from the Linda and P. Andrews McLane Collection,” displays more than 60 paintings of White Mountain landscape art from a single private collection. Most of these paintings have not been on view to the public for many years.

Pierce Manse reopens for the season

The Pierce Manse, the historic Concord home of New Hampshire’s only U.S. president, Franklin Pierce, opened for guided tours last week. The Manse will be open Thursdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October 25. Reservations are not required.

Two Villages Art Society begins summer members show

More than 40 New Hampshire artists will display their work in the 2025 Summer Members Show & Sale at Two Villages Art Society’s gallery in the Hopkinton village of Contoocook. The show opens May 31, with a reception from noon to 2 p.m. and runs through June 28.

A history of the Henniker Summer Concert Series

It all began modestly 45 years ago when New England College Professor of Music Angela Robinson revived a 19th-century tradition of hosting outdoor community concerts. On Tuesday evenings during July and August, Robinson’s volunteer musicians would present an hour of Souza marches and Patriotic tunes to a crowd of 50-100 families and seniors. Blithe Reed would sing the Star Spangled Banner and the Henniker Peace Community would sell lemonade and brownies. Halfway through the program, Robinson would lead a parade of young children through the crowd to a rousing march.
