Letter: Don’t let doctors pump grandma with the blue juice

Prominent Democratic attorney Steve Gordon, law partner of Billy Shaheen, recently published an opinion piece calling for the passage of assisted suicide legislation. A bit of advice: When the lawyers and lobbyists start weighing in on legislation, hold on to your wallets. The assisted suicide movement is not a grassroots effort but rather a nationally coordinated attempt to pass similar legislation in 11 states. This legislation is masked in an effort of relieving pain with a true goal of relieving the checkbooks of the insurance companies and padding the margins of Wall Street. Assisted suicide strips away our humanity and boils us down to a cost. It is cheaper for the insurance companies and Wall Street to have our elderly parents put down than pay for palliative care. In the veterinary world, they call it the blue juice. Imagine, taking your parent to be injected with the blue juice like you would a dying dog. Don’t let Wall Street and the insurance companies win – defeat HB254 and the assisted suicide movement.
