Letter: Do not be afraid, get involved!

I read with great interest, reporter Michaela Towfighi’s article (2/21) regarding the new middle school in Concord. I agree completely with Jeff Wells when he calls for a reconsideration or to rescind a vote to build a new school at Broken Ground. While our autonomous school board has the right to make decisions without a public vote, they could be considered derelict in their duties if they do not at least listen to those who are footing the bill. I am sure some residents were in favor of building a new school at Broken Ground, but I did not see any support for it on social media or in the Monitor. There was plenty of public opposition to the project though!

A reconsideration of a past vote only happens when a member who originally voted on the prevailing side receives a second on the question of reconsideration, but the time to seek relief in this manner has a time limit. The need for transparency is there. We need to understand the choices being made for the new building. The key to success on getting a re-vote to pause the project at this time is for taxpayers to get involved, now. Call or email school board members now, before they spend any of our tax dollars. Please sign the petition now at change.org/p/rescind-vote-on-broken-ground. School board member contact information can be found at sau8.org/page/members-committees
