Online maps from utilities show where power outages exist

The strong winter storm sweeping through the country will be causing intermittent power outages in New Hampshire at least through Christmas Eve, and after a warm spell Friday temperatures will fall below freezing all weekend.

The emergency winter shelter at First Church Concord, 177 N. Main St., will be operating from 6:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. every night.

Fire officials caution people who have backup generators to keep them outdoors, at least 20 feet from doors or windows. Generators release carbon monoxide, an odorless gas that can kill people; CO poisoning is one of the main causes of death after winter storms.

The region’s utilities have been preparing for outages caused by strong winds, bringing in extra staff and deploying trucks in advance.
