Wool Day at the Wentworth House

What: Spinners and knitters are invited to spend a day learning about all things wool. In cooperation with the SouthEast New Hampshire Spinners Guild, Rollinsford’s Colonel Paul Wentworth House will host Wool Day, a free education day on spinning and knitting with raw native wool. Throughout the day, experts will present talks and demonstrations on choosing, skirting and scouring a fleece; spinning and knitting in the grease; using hand cards and combs; and knitting a Shetland hat. Vendors will have a variety of goods for sale, including wool processing products and equipment, raw fleeces (including Blacknose Valais, Shetland, and Cheviot fleeces), and spindle spinning kits. Visitors can try their hand at spindle spinning, enjoy other wool-related activities, and take a tour of the circa 1701 Wentworth House.

When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 20.

Where: The Colonel Paul Wentworth House, at 47 Water St., in Rollinsford.

What: The Center for the Arts recently sponsored a visit by Maddie Stephenson to Kearsarge Regional High School. Stephenson, an esteemed composer and arranger known for her use of unique harmonies and textures, is in her last semester of her masters, studying Film Composition at New York University, and has been commissioned to compose a musical piece specifically for the KRHS band, with elements provided by the KRHS students themselves. Sean Anderson, music director at KRHS, has left composition choices open, with his only requirement that it not be in a major key or 4/4 time signature, which are commonly seen by the students. The faculty and students all enjoyed the first collaborative experience with Ms. Stephensen.

When: The KRHS Band will perform this original piece at their Spring Concert on May 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Where: KRHS, 457 N Road, in North Sutton

Info: The public is invited to attend. For more information about this and other CFA sponsored programs in the schools, please visit https://centerfortheartsnh.org/teachers, or contact ainfo@cfanh.org.

Jack of Diamonds

What: Jack is a former jeweler who made his living buying and selling diamonds via late-night TV ads. He lives in a rather luxurious, privately-owned retirement home along with his fellow residents: the visually challenged techno-wizard Rose, the artistically gifted but forgetful Flora, and the narcoleptic beauty Blanche. Unbeknownst to the four of them, however, the man to whom they’ve entrusted their life savings – a smooth-talking financial advisor named Barney Effward – has been arrested for bilking his clients out of their savings through a Ponzi scheme. Faced with financial ruin, the four suddenly find themselves confronting the author of their miserable fate when Effward is unexpectedly delivered among them – along with several million dollars in diamonds. Pandemonium ensues as the four retirees try to find a way to exact their revenge, recoup their losses, and keep the authorities from discovering their plans.

When: May 19 to May 20 at 7:30 p.m., and May 21 at 2 p.m.

Where: Scenic Theater, at 6 Depot St. in Pittsfield
