Nighttime traffic may be snarled on I-393 between Concord and Chichester on Sunday and Monday nights as the state replaces some of the highway’s signs.

The work will be done between Exits 1 and the Chichester/Pembroke town line.  The Department of Transportation will upgrade signs over two nights, weather permitting.

The new signs, which will provide the same information, are part of a $477,791 replacement project taking place on I-393 in both directions, that should be completed by Oct. 20.

The signs are being upgraded to meet new federal standards for signs in the highway system. The biggest change will be on signs currently attached to the Exit 2 bridge, which are higher than standards call for. They will be lowered as well as replaced.

The work will require temporary lane closures, rolling roadblocks and intermittent 15-minute closures while the signs are being removed.   The general contractor is Northeast Traffic Control Services of Plymouth, Mass.
