Letter: Social Security woes

I am tired of hearing elected officials complain that “something has to be done” about Social Security or the system will go broke and then doing nothing except threatening to cut benefits. I have a couple of ideas on how to fix things.

First, eliminate the wage cap. Everyone should pay for social security at the same rate regardless of their income. Taking 7.5% of someone’s income, making less than $145,000 hurts a lot more than if you’re making $2 million.

Second, let’s put senators and representatives in the system like the rest of the country. No special retirement packages or medical plans. I bet that, if they experienced the same services the rest of us get, they would fix the problem in a matter of months.
