Students at James Faulkner Elementary School in Stoddard celebrated Valentine’s Day in a heart-healthy way. Taking their cue from Healthy Monadnock’s 9-5-2-1-0 program that encourages getting nine hours of sleep, five servings of fruits and vegetables, two hours less screen time, one hour of physical exercise, and zero sugary drinks daily, JFES students tracked these habits at home all week.
Then on Feb. 14, they held a Heart-Healthy Valentine’s Day Celebration featuring tastings of water infused with fruits and veggies, jumping rope to get more exercise, and sampling Hulk muffins containing spinach and apples.
Each student also received a book to encourage more reading at home to reduce screen time and improve sleep habits. Students even planted spinach seeds today for their school garden!
