Letter: Destructive trends worldwide

I’m someone who has felt our defense spending to be outrageously high for many years. The Republicans have on their agenda significant cuts to our defense budget. Ordinarily I would welcome this. Now, however is a time of great peril in the world. Feels like the most dangerous time in my sixty-nine years. China is a threat to the United States. So too is the Russian Federation. North Korea is a threat. Then there’s Iran and Syria. Historically every other top economic power has fallen. Our world is fast becoming increasingly violent and dangerous in many ways. In many places.

Poverty, censorship, and lack of education feed this. Remember that Pol Pot irradiated all the educated people in Cambodia. In the United States we have many vigilante and hate groups. Developmentally they view law enforcement en masse to be the enemy. Unfortunately they are also able to outgun law enforcement. Political assassinations follow. Then anarchy. We are trending towards this. Some corrections are in order now. Do not be blind, naive, or lulled into apathy believing that this cannot happen in our country. We need to be careful. We need to be more than careful.
