D-I Girls’ Basketball

No. 9 Concord 46, No. 8 Dover 42

Key players: Concord – Aidah Smalley (14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals), Delaney Duford (13 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals), Whitney Vaillant (10 points, 5 steals, 2 rebounds)

Highlights: Concord played from behind until 3:47 was left in the fourth quarter. Vaillant made a 3, was fouled, missed her foul shot, but scored to put the Tide up 39-38 after Smalley grabbed the offensive rebound. Dover tried to respond, but with some strong defense and key baskets by Smalley, Vaillant and Rose Layton, Concord held on for the win. The Tide will tipoff at undefeated No. 1 Bishop Guertin on Friday night.

Coach’s quote: “I feel like I keep repeating myself the last few weeks, but I am so proud of how this team never gives up. That’s our fourth come-from-behind fourth quarter win in the last six wins we have had. Now we face a huge challenge in the quarterfinals. It’s going to be a very talented, tough opponent to beat, but I know these girls will give it all they got.” – Concord’s Rob Darrell

Records: Concord 11-8; Dover 10-9
