Letter: Hate has no place in Franklin

Published: 03-29-2023 7:00 AM

Dear fellow residents of Franklin, it has come to our attention that another example of hate graffiti has occurred in Franklin (this time at Mill City Park), and it makes us sad, angry, and confused. We cannot understand why anyone would target groups of people based solely on the fact that they are different from themselves in some way. Perhaps the perpetrators feel threatened by differences, rather than welcoming, celebrating, and learning from human diversity. No matter their reasons, hateful actions speak much more about who they are than who they are targeting.

It is often true that “hurt people tend to hurt people.” We hope that our fellow Franklin citizens will make a commitment and stand with us in believing that hate has no place here, and that we will speak up and speak out against it any time we see it in action in any form. Let us, together, set the standard for how we should treat people and how we want to be treated. Love is stronger than hate! On behalf of the Anti-Hate Group of Franklin NH (formerly known as “Citizens Task Force Against Hate”), we owe the standard of a better community to ourselves and to those who come after us.
