Ty Meier has been drawing and creating art obsessively for as long as he can remember. A lifelong artist, the Hopkinton resident is about to hang a solo show and sale at Two Villages Art Society’s gallery.

The show is called “Secrets of Happiness” and will be displayed Feb. 25 to April 1. The gallery is open to the public free of charge Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. There will be an opening reception Feb. 25 from 3 to 4 p.m. Attendees are invited to stay and enjoy live music from 4 to 6 p.mm by Hopkinton based band, Hydro-Geo Trio, featuring George Holt, Dave MacLean, Dan Morrissey, and Mitch Simon.

Meier, a California native, describes the exhibit as “one artist’s journey into the big questions of life.” A full-time artist, he “searches for the path to peace, prosperity and happiness through meditative stream-of-consciousness ‘big doodles’ and Zen flow.” His art is distinctive and recognizable, with its nature subjects, vivid colors, and intricate designs.

Meier works in acrylic and inks, generally painting stylized animals and birds. His backgrounds are filled with elaborate scrollwork, filigrees, spirals, and what he refers to as “swirly-dos.” A Ty Meier animal scene is realistically detailed, and at the same time wildly imaginative.

“Ty Meier’s work stand out anywhere it’s displayed,” says Alyssa McKeown, president of TVAS. “Whether it’s a smiling fox, a bumblebee among flowers, or an owl in the moonlight, you know it’s Ty Meier’s when you see it.”

Meier is a member of the board of directors of Two Villages Art Society and of Concord Makerspace, an organization supporting “makers” of all ages and skill sets. He is a juried member of the New Hampshire Artists Association and shows his work regularly at area retail outlets, art and craft shows, and farmer’s markets. As education chair for Two Villages Art Society, he developed and leads increasingly popular monthly events such as Artist Circle Night and informal critiquing sessions. Open to TVAS members and the public, these events provide an opportunity for artists to network, exchange friendly advice, and share resources in a supportive atmosphere.

Two Villages Art Society is a non-profit, member-driven art association with a gallery located at 846 Main Street in Hopkinton’s Contoocook Village. It was voted Best of NH (art galleries) by New Hampshire Magazine in 2022. Membership is open to all and admission to exhibits is free.
