An artistic celebration of nearly 100 years of women’s suffrage in the United States is coming to Concord Saturday – part of a nationwide, year-long tour.

On Saturday afternoon, New Hampshire residents will be able to see Her Flag, a collaborative effort by artist Marilyn Artus to honor the ratification of the 19th amendment, which gave voting rights to women.

Artus launched a 14-month project to highlight the 100th year anniversary of that amendment, which received its 36th necessary state approval in Tennessee in August 1920.

The artist is visiting each of the 36 states that passed the amendment – which includes New Hampshire – bringing a traveling exhibit to Chamberlin House in Concord. As part of the tour, Artus is teaming up with artists in each state to contribute a stripe to a flag she’s building as she goes.

By the end of the tour in Tennessee in August 2020, the 36-stripe flag will be 18 by 26 feet, according to a news release from the Her Flag organization.

On Saturday, New Hampshire artist Nicole LaRue will be featured at the exhibit – and will be contributing to New Hampshire’s stripe. LaRue, who currently lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, designed the official logo of the Women’s March on Washington in January 2017.

New Hampshire’s Legislature ratified the amendment Sept. 10, 1919, the 16th state to do so.

The exhibit will run from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Woman’s Club of Concord at 44 Pleasant Street in Concord. For more information, go to
