An early morning fire in Northfield left one building heavily damaged but nobody hurt Tuesday.
Tilton-Northfield fire Capt. Tim Joubert wrote in an email that his department and a fire engine from Franklin were called to a building fire on Cofran Avenue just after 5 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw fire coming through the roof of a large detached shop building. They put out all visible flames from the outside, and they decided not to attack from the inside of the building due to possibly hazardous roof damage.
Joubert noted that the building was large and full of fuel and other hazardous items.
Firefighters got the flames under control by 6:38 a.m., and they cleared the scene by 7 a.m.
No residents or firefighters were injured, and the cause of the blaze is being considered as accidental. Joubert said it was caused by malfunctioning electrical equipment.
