Numerous police cars surrounded a Loudon residence Monday morning in search of a man that authorities said fled following a motor vehicle stop.
About 9 a.m., officers from Loudon, Gilmanton and the state police surrounded the area of Fillmore Industries along Route 106. At a residence just south of the sand pit, cruisers were parked all along the driveway. Police and a K-9 unit were investigating the area about 11 a.m. Monday.
“We had a guy take off from an officer and then park behind this house and fled on foot,” said Gilmanton police Chief Matthew Currier. He pointed to a wooded area behind a small white home, where the man allegedly went.
Currier said the man they were searching for was a New Hampshire Department of Motor Vehicles habitual offender. To be classified as a habitual offender one must have 12 convictions of speed, yellow line, operating without a license or operating without proof of financial responsibility all within a five-year period.
One may also be designated a habitual offender if he or she has eight of the above convictions plus one major conviction like driving while intoxicated or reckless driving, or four of the regular convictions and two major convictions.
Currier declined to identify the man labeled as a habitual offender in this case while the search was still ongoing. Attempts to reach Currier regarding the results of the search were unsuccessful Monday evening.
