The John Stark-Hopkinton hockey team (8-4) defeated Holls/Brookline-Derryfield (3-10) on Saturday, 5-2. The General Hawks led 2-1 after the first period and 4-1 after the second. Noah Chapman (two goals), Lane Crowley (three assists), Brett Patnode (goal, two assists), Benny Madden (goal), Tim Meserve (assist) Joe Sawitsky (assist) and Elijah Chapman (assist) contributed to the scoring. Jameson Bourque made 22 saves.
The Hopkinton Middle School Nordic ski team came out strong during Saturdayโs N.H. Coaches Series Race. For the boysโ team, Theodore Mollano, Hayden Lynch, Josh Duval and Parker Wuellenweber all placed inside the top 40 out of 72 skiers. For the girls, Lilia Klingler, Frances Trafton, Cate Westbrook and Madeleine Maughan all finished in the top 30 out of 80 skiers. Patrick Quinn improved by 25 minutes from last year.
The McDevitt Truck Concord Capitals Mite 1 team split a pair of games over the weekend, losing, 7-1, to the Back Bay Squirt 1 team defeating the West River Royals, 5-2. Jaden Haas scored the lone goal against Back Bay while Haas, Patrick Owen, Tad Stokes, Alex May and Nolan Walsh recorded goals in the win over the Royals.
Cam Plumb scored two goals for the Brochu Nursery Squirt 1 team in a 4-2 win over the Lowell Hawks. Avery Condon and Chili Cabot also scored. Rowan Arndt, Gavin Nestler and Cabot had assists.
The Sanel Auto Parts Concord Capitals Peewee 2 team skated to a 4-4 tie against the Junior Sharks on Sunday. Jack Breault and Aiden Ramshaw scored two goals apiece for Concord. Jonathan McDonald registered the lone assist. On Saturday, Concord defeated Lakes Region, 8-3. Henry Powell netted a pair of goals, as did Breault and Zach McCoy.
The Concord Boys & Girls Club seventh- and eighth-grade girlsโ team lost to Derry, 30-26. Ami Rivera (13 points, eight rebounds, six steals), Kayli Daigneault (three points, three steals), Riley Marsh (six rebounds) and Elisabeth Blinn (four rebounds) played well for Concord.
The Dunbarton White third- and fourth-grade boysโ team defeated Henniker 1, 31-21. Offensive leaders for Dunbarton were Nate Kiah (nine points), Trevor Carter (six), Mike Magdziasz (four), Chase Flagg (four), Angelo Constant (three) and Nick Dale (three).
The Tilton School JV girlsโ basketball team defeated High Mowing, 35-34, to improve to 10-0.
Concordโs B.J. Smith, a senior on the Franklin Pierce menโs indoor track and field team, won the 3,000-meter race at the Wesleyan Invitational. Smith clocked a winning time of 8:56.61. Smith also ran on the second-place 4×800 relay, which is currently ranked second in the conference.
The fourth annual Frank Monahan Foundation Basketball Showcase will be held on Sunday at Bishop Brady High School. The showcase features four boysโ prep school games and one NHIAA contest. UNH womenโs soccer camps are now open for registration. The 2017 Junior Wildcat Girls Soccer Camp will be held from July 10-13. All female players in grades 1-5 (as of the 2017-18 academic year) are invited to register. Four morning sessions will be taught by UNH women’s soccer staff and players. Each day runs from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. This session costs $180. The 2017 UNH Girls Soccer Overnight Camp will be held from July 16-19. Cap City Basketball will be holding its AAU tryouts on Saturday and Feb. 18 at Bishop Brady High School.
