Jameson Bourque continued his dominance between the pipes on Saturday, racking up 51 saves for the John Stark-Hopkinton boys’ ice hockey team as the General Hawks skated to a 2-2 tie against Berlin-Gorham.

The result was an improvement from the last time these two teams played when the Mountaineers took total control en route to a 7-0 blanking of the General Hawks on their home ice.

This time around Stark-Hopkinton (8-4-1) was the first to strike, opening the scoring with a goal off the post from Brett Patnode in the second period. The Mountaineers, however, responded by netting two goals in off rebounds later in the frame for a 2-1 lead.

With just 3:37 remaining in the contest, Stark-Hopkinton’s Tim Sawitsky tipped in a shot from Noah Chapman for the equalizer, and Bourque saved his best for last, turning back a breakaway chance with 15 seconds left to preserve the tie.

“We played with heart,” Stark-Hopkinton Coach Denis Kolehmainen said. “The boys dug deep and kept playing hard to come back and tie the score.”

The General Hawks return to the ice on Tuesday at home against Laconia-Winnisquam.
