Main St., Iditarod racer Joseph Robertia will visit Gibson’s to present Life With Forty Dogs: Misadventures with Runts, Rejects, Retirees, and Rescues. This is a collection of canine-related conundrums that a couple (and their little girl) faces as a result of opening their lives, hearts, and home to forty dogs – living with, caring for, and rehabilitating rescued dogs 24/7. For the past 14 years, Robertia has been an award-winning writer and photographer. Along with his wife, he has mushed dogs with his kennel fielding teams in the 1,000-mile lditarod, Yukon Quest and more than 30 other races.

Enjoy a guided tour of the New Hampshire Historical Society’s historic Park Street building and exhibitions led by a member of the society’s education or volunteer docent staff on Saturday. Please note that there are two tours. One tour starts at 2 p.m. and the other tour starts at 3 p.m. Each tour is about an hour in length. Find out more about New Hampshire’s “Temple of History” and hear stories about the objects on display that make their history come alive. From a 500-year-old dugout canoe to a 1972 Ski-doo, the exhibitions on display at the New Hampshire Historical Society show you things you just can’t see anywhere else. Guided gallery tours are 45 minutes long and are appropriate for visitors of all ages. The tour is included in the price of paid admission for adult and family audiences. Congratulations to quilt artist Susan McCandless from Deering and Concord who has been accepted as a finalist in the 2017 World Quilt Competition at World Quilt New England. The event will take place at the Radisson Center in Manchester from Aug. 17 to 19. Following acceptance by the competition’s jury, McCandless’s quilt, Cherry Daisy, will be on display at the show along with more than 230 other entries from around the world. Winners will be selected at the show, and publicized on the World Quilt New England website starting Aug. 17.
