Youth basketball

The Concord Boys and Girls Club seventh- and eighth-grade boys’ basketball team upset Bedford, 47-45. Preston Wallis nailed a last-second shot at the buzzer for the win.

The Concord Boys and Girls Club seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ basketball team improved to 11-3 with a 34-16 win over Hudson 8. Elizabeth Blinn (nine rebounds), Isabella Rivera (nine points) and Julia Dolpies (seven points, seven rebounds) led the way in the victory. Hannah Capsalis and Tara Sullivan each finished with four points.

In a pair of Suburban League games for the Bow third- and fourth-grade boys’ basketball team, Bow defeated Goffstown, 41-40, and beat Amherst, 37-30. Tommy Tsouros combined for 39 points in the two games, followed by Jake Reardon with 19, Brendan O’Keeffe (nine) and Peyton Larrabee (eight).

Youth hockey

The Concord Coach Lines Squirt 1 team defeated Andover, Mass., 2-0, on Sunday. Rowan Arndt and Colby Nyhan each notched one goal. Jaden Haas added one assist. Both Logan Hayes and Jackson Chadwick led the defense while Garret Bishop posted the shutout in goal.

The Ace of Blades Mowing Concord Capitals Peewee 2 team tied Manchester 4, 3-3, in the first of five games over the weekend. The Capitals picked up a win over NHE2 (6-4), but lost to Reading (3-0), Plymouth (3-2), and Rochester (4-2). In the win over NHE2, Hayden Ford netted a hat trick, while Gavin Nestler scored twice and Chili Cabot added one goal. Assists in the win came from Cabot (two), Aiden Ciminesi (two), Gavin Currier (two), Soren Puc and Nestler.

Prep results

The Tilton School girls’ basketball team picked up a 62-50 win over St. Paul’s School. Nicole Freddo led the Rams with a full line, posting 13 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while teammates Abby Settelmeyer (13 points, nine rebounds), Karolina Tellman (10 points, eight rebounds) and Maddie Clark (nine points, six assists) all played well. For St. Paul’s Adia Burrows finished with 13 points, Jaxy Marquez had nine and Ella Stewart finished with eight.

Marcus Zegarowski netted a team-high 29 points and hit several 3-pointers to lift the Tilton School boys’ basketball team over Vermont Academy, 97-79, on Saturday. Eric Beckett added 15 points and Cam Parker chipped in with 14. On Sunday, the Rams hit the road to face South Kent and won, 71-69. Tilton led, 44-24 at halftime and received 15 points from Marcus Zegarowski, 11 from Max Zegarowski and 10 from Beckett.

College standouts

Loudon’s Warren Bartlett and Joey Baylus and Penacook’s Brendan Polichronopoulos combined for several top-three finishes for the Plymouth State men’s indoor track and field team, leading the Panthers to second place in a meet on their home track. Bartlett, a Bishop Brady graduate, finished second in both the 800 (2:01.94) and the mile (4:20.40). Baylus, an MV graduate wont he 55 hurdles in 8.91 seconds. Polichronopoulos, also an MV graduate, finished third in the 800, less than three seconds behind Bartlett. Baylus ran on the second-place 4×200 and Polichronopoulos was on the runner-up 4×800.

Cap City Basketball AAU tryouts will be held on Feb. 10, Feb. 24 and March 11 for boys and girls in grades 2-10. Players must attend tryouts on all three dates. Concord Crush Learn to Play lacrosse clinics will be held this winter. This will be a co-ed clinic for players in grades 1-4. Clinics will be held Monday evenings beginning this Monday and running through March. Clinics will be held at Seacoast Indoor, 10 Ferry St. This clinic is open to all area players. Little Strikers Indoor Soccer Clinics, hosted by FieldHouse Sports, is accepting registrations for the next session for ages 3-6. Plymouth State University Softball clinics will start on Sunday with special guests Dick Blood, the former head coach at Cornell University, and Harold Sachs, the former Salem High coach and current pitching coach at Merrimack College. Blood will lead a hitting clinic from 9-10:30 a.m., and Sachs will holding a pitching clinic from 10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The cost for these is $40 per player. Four more clinics will be led by Plymouth State softball coaches and players and will be held on four separate Saturdays; Feb. 3, 17 and 24 and March 3, from 9 a.m.-noon. The cost is $30 per player. Merrimack Valley baseball players and coaches will conduct their annual youth clinic series beginning in February. The clinic is geared for players age 8-12.
