A Merrimack legislator introduced a bill Tuesday that would require a warrant for police to test blood in a DWI case.
WMUR reported that Republican state Rep. Dan Hynes is sponsoring the bill. Hynes, who also specializes in DWI cases as an attorney, said the standard for drawing blood in DWI investigations is too low. Hynes said he was inspired by a Utah nurse who was arrested after she refused to let a police officer draw blood from an unconscious patient.
Republican House Speaker Gene Chandler said he disagrees with how the bill is written. Chandler said he wants to make sure the proposed law doesn’t block police investigations.
The House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee as scheduled to discuss the bill during a public hearing on Tuesday.
