Middle school champions
The Bow Memorial School Wildcats (pictured) won the Tri-County Division III Softball Championship against South Meadow School, 4-3. Hannah McGonigle pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and striking out nine. Kelly Harris (two hits, three RBI), Emily Kiah (two hits, RBI) and Cailyn Benson (leadoff double) led the offense while Madison Speckman, Carlee Davis and Madison Roberge led the defense. The Wildcats finished the season with a 12-2 record.
Beckett Glass defeated Bow Consultants in a Capital Area majors game. For Beckett, Ally McGonigle was solid behind the plate and had a hit, Camdyn Despres hit a double and Kaitlyn Halleck had a great catch at second. For Bow, Emma Kelly had a diving catch and three hits. Ella Roos was solid in the circle with strong defensive plays and also had a hit.
Concord Northeast Sulloway and Hollis defeated MV Penacook Pharmacy in majors action. For Sulloway and Hollis, Margaret Sheehan (two hits, three runs), Delaney Duford (two hits, three runs) and Maddie Kelley (two hits, run) led the offense. Sarah Taylor had eight strikeouts in the circle. For Penacook Pharmacy, Kayla Smith had two hits and Olivia Seeley had a hit and run scored.
In Concord Northeast AAA action, Sherwin Williams defeated Brines-ESC. For Sherwin Williams, Patrick Owen had two hits and struck out five in two innings. Alex Turant had a hit and struck out five in two innings. For Brines, Deagan Hines had two hits, Tommy Weaver had a double and Logan Hayes pitched well.
The Hopkinton boys U10 team (4-2) defeated Nashua, 7-2. Kristoff Cauley (three goals), Sawyer Zipke (two goals) and Finn Murphy (two goals) scored for Hopkinton. Zipke and Tad Stokes split time in net.
Concord Fencing Club’s Evan Johnson took the gold medal in the senior mixed epee event in a tournament hosted by the Concord Fencing Club over the weekend. Johnson won his final bout, 15-7.
The John Stark Spring Sports Awards night will take place on June 14. The evening will start in the cafeteria at 5:30 p.m. for dessert and drinks before moving to the gym at 6 p.m. where all teams will be recognized and the Sportsmanship and Scholar-Athlete awards will be presented. The evening will conclude with programs moving into individual classrooms for team specific recognition.
Peak FC, a new non-profit soccer and futsal club launching in June and based out of Pembroke and Concord, will play soccer and train at the NEAC complex in Pembroke and play futsal at the new Concord Community Center. The new club will offer a full-year option (Aug.-June) and also offer seasonal options for kids who are multi-sport athletes. Peak FC will offer beginner and advanced camps, clinics and other training opportunities. Tryouts are scheduled for Friday and June 22 from 5-8 p.m. at NEAC Fields in Pembroke. There is no cost for tryouts but players must register online at peakfc.net.
Post 72 Junior American Legion baseball tryouts will be held on Saturday (9 a.m. to noon) and Sunday (9 a.m. to noon) at Farmington High School. Any player age 13-17 who attends any of the following high schools is eligible to tryout: Prospect Mountain, Kingswood, Gilford, Belmont, Moultonborough, Inter-Lakes, Brewster Academy and Pittsfield. Fieldhouse Sports Indoor Facility adult summer leagues are accepting both team and individual registrations. Concord Parks & Rec track & field camps for grades 1-7 will run June 18-22 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at Memorial Field and will feature a variety of events. UNH men’s basketball team Elite Camp will be on June 23 for players entering grades 9-12 next fall. The camp features personalized skill instruction, 5-v-5 game play, college admission and NCAA Eligibility Center informational sessions. It will take place at Lundholm Gymnasium in the UNH Field House. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. and the session runs from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Lunch is included in the camp cost of $125. Plymouth State basketball annual summer youth basketball camp will be held from June 25-28 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The camp is designed for boys and girls of all skill levels, ages 7-16. NHTI Athletics Department Golf Series will be held at Beaver Meadow Golf Course on June 22. Cost is $450 for a team of four. Greens fees, cart and dinner are included.
