In doubles semifinal action Friday, Bill Simonton and Roy Weddleton defeated Charles O’Leary and Art LaBlanc, 6-2, 6-3. Krishna Giri and Harka Gurung beat Brian Fontaine and Dan Meserve, 7-5, 6-4. In the remaining singles quarterfinal match Mike Lewis beat Bir Shah, 6-2, 6-1. This sets up a doubles final of Simonton/Weddleton vs. Giri/Gurung at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The singles semifinals are set for 9 a.m. Todd Place vs. Lewis and Scott Blassingame vs. Matt Salter are the matchups. All matches are at the Bow Brook Club and are dependent on the weather.
Ryan Lidge scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning, leading the Trenton Thunder to a 3-1 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Friday in New Jersey. The Thunder snapped a five-game losing streak with the win. Lidge scored on the play to give the Thunder a 2-1 lead after he reached base with a single and advanced to third on a single by Rashad Crawford. The Thunder tacked on another run in the sixth when Jhalan Jackson hit a solo home run. Jordan Foley (3-4) got the win with 3⅔ innings of scoreless, two-hit relief while New Hampshire starter Tayler Saucedo (3-3) took the loss in the Eastern League game. Matt Wivinis pitched 1⅓ scoreless innings for his second save of the season. Andrew Guillotte doubled and singled for the Fisher Cats.
The New Hampshire Comets are looking for a pitcher, catcher and outfielder for its 16U-Rivera team. Travel ball experience is preferred. The 2019 CHaD Battle of the Badges Hockey Championship is set for March 16 at SNHU Arena in Manchester. Tryouts for Team Fire are Sept. 22 (2-3 p.m.), Sept. 28 (7:15-8:15 p.m.) and Oct. 6 (3:15-4:15 p.m.). Tryouts for Team Police are Sept. 22 (3:15-4:15 p.m.), Sept. 28 (6-7 p.m.) and Oct. 6 (2-3 p.m.). All tryouts are at Sullivan Arena at Saint Anselm College. Potential players must attend at least one tryout. Eligible participants include local and state police officers, sheriffs, marshals, homeland security, dispatchers, and corrections officers; full and part-time, call, and volunteer firefighters, dispatchers, and EMT/paramedics. Rosters will be announced in October with orientation, fundraising, and practices beginning in November. The event and its participants raise money for Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth.
Concord Parks & Recreation Boot Camp, 45 minutes of fast, high intensity, sweaty fun, is accepting registrations. Each class is different, using a variety of formats and equipment and will challenge your body in new ways. NFL Flag Football is being offered by Concord Parks and Recreation. It is a league for boys and girls, ages 6-11.
