A Loudon man accused of attempting to take an officer’s firearm and of biting another officer on the forearm was recently indicted by a grand jury.

Sean Blanchard, 39, is charged with taking a firearm from a law enforcement officer, simple assault against a law enforcement officer and reckless conduct in connection with the incident on July 6 on Route 106 in Loudon.

Police responded to the state highway near Wales Bridge Road at about 4:21 a.m. for a report of a man who was lying in the middle of the road wearing only his underwear, according to an affidavit prepared by Concord officer Sarah Wyszynski. Loudon officers had requested Concord’s assistance as Blanchard was resisting arrest and had refused to move out of the road, police said.

He told Wyszynski that he would only listen to his “point of contact,” which he identified as the “United States Marines Air Force Flight Division,” Wyszynski wrote.

As police were trying to walk with Blanchard toward the side of the state highway, he increasingly resisted and tried to force one officer down an embankment, according to the affidavit. Wyszynski ultimately brought Blanchard to the ground on top of her. While other officers tried to pull Blanchard off Wyszynski, he unclipped her magazine pouch and reached for her duty weapon.

“I placed my right hand on top of my firearm keeping it secured in my holster,” she wrote. “I continued to turn more on to my right arm and yelled for officers and firefighters that he was grabbing my gun.”

While Blanchard continued to try to remove Wyszynski’s gun, he yelled, “I’m going to (expletive) kill you.”

Several officers finally got Blanchard off of Wyszynski but not before he bit Concord police officer Steven Carter, who suffered puncture wounds and bruising to his left forearm.

Blanchard will be arraigned in Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord at a later date.
