Concord police say a shooting that occurred in an apartment complex in Penacook involving a juvenile suspect may be related to an attempted robbery.

Concord police Lt. Sean Ford said few details of the shooting that injured an 18-year-old man Saturday morning can be released due to an ongoing investigation. But he did say police are pursuing whether multiple parties are involved. He also said that the shooting involving “multiple rounds of gunfire” in a settled area is of concern.

Police responded to reports of gunfire aimed at a sedan leaving the scene at 50 Pinehurst St., where the Penacook Place apartments are located, at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. It was followed by a second call, which turned out to be the male victim of the shooting.

The victim had driven to One Stop Mart, a convenience store also known as Sam’s Food Stores about two miles away from the apartment complex, Ford said. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Police responded to the scene and transported the male to Concord Hospital, where he was treated for serious injuries.

Ford declined to release details on the victim’s condition other than to say he was still undergoing treatment for multiple gunshots.

Police executed a search warrant and seized “a bunch of evidence” that led to the arrest of the suspect, Ford said. He declined to say where the search occurred or what was seized, citing the ongoing investigation.

The suspect has been charged with one count related to attempted armed robbery and one count of first-degree assault, Ford said.

Neither the suspect or the victim lives in the apartment complex, Ford said. He said both parties involved are familiar with the area.

The case is currently going through the juvenile court system, which has confidential proceedings. A juvenile is anyone under the age of 18, Ford said.

Ford said anyone with information should contact him at 225-8600 or the Concord Regional Crimeline at 226-3100.
