Abbot-Downing School has been dancing into their weekends this school year.
Called “Dance Dismissals,” the elementary school has started a routine of turning on music and grooving during dismissal time as a way to blow off Friday afternoon steam.
But the Friday before winter break, they had another mission – to dance hard enough to impress Ellen DeGeneres and get featured on her show through her “Watch Me Work It at Work” challenge, which is meant to encourage people to dance at work.
“The event is really about having some fun before February vacation, continuing to build climate, and positively promote ADS!” Abbot-Downing’s principal Anthony Blinn said via email.
The whole school lined up in a hallway and danced to a variety of songs, including “Let’s Get It Started” by the Black Eyed Peas and “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO. Students went by grades, often lead by their teachers.
Winners of the challenge get to sit in the Bubly Box, a special section of seating on the Ellen Show set. But Blinn, knowing all 500 students wouldn’t fit in the section, plans to invite DeGeneres to visit the school instead.
Should they succeed, it won’t be the first time New Hampshire has danced on the Ellen show; former governor John Lynch flossed (or tried) his way to brief internet fame when he appeared on the show last spring.
A quick version of the footage provided by ConcordTV Staff and volunteer producer Connor Morrell was provided to the Monitor.
