■The Book Discussion Group, at the Boscawen Public Library, will be sharing their feedback on the novel As Bright as Heaven at their meeting on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. This compelling story, by Susan Meissner, set in Philadelphia in 1918, focuses on a mother and her daughters who find themselves in a harsh world, that either crushes their resolve to survive or purify it. Extra copies of the novel are available for those who wish to join the discussion or just enjoy on their own.
■Take a Sunday drive to the Boscawen Historical Society and discover the local history and the surrounding towns. The museum, located at 226 King St., is open from 2 to 4 p.m. through Columbus Day or by chance or appointment. It is packed full of memorabilia, artifacts, pictures and so much more. ■Today the Salisbury Historical Society is hosting a concert from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Town Hall located on Route 4.
■Wednesday at the selectmen’s meeting at 6 p.m. at Academy Hall there will be an update on how local community leaders are taking steps to reduce the effects of Salisbury’s next natural disaster event, including flooding, storms, severe winds and winter weather.

■Help wanted at the Swap Shop at the Hopkinton/Webster Transfer Station. The Swap Shop is the big beige shipping container located off to the right as you approach the recycling shed. The shop is only open when there is a volunteer available. If you would be interested in helping out, sign up at the office.
■Today from 2 – 4 p.m., Lindsey Schust and the Ragged Mountain Band will perform for the Pillsbury Lake Community and friends. This event is brought to you by your neighbors, Frank and Jeanette Baker. Come in your favorite water craft and listen from the lake or bring a blanket to enjoy from the yard. Bring a picnic lunch if you want. In case of rain, the performance will be moved to the clubhouse.
■There are surveys being distributed in the Pillsbury Lake Village District that need to be filled out and returned no later than Sept. 18. The survey is to determine if the village is eligible for grants to repair and maintain the water equipment. The only people receiving the surveys are the water users.
■The Webster Free Public Library wants to be sure that we’re showing the types of movies you want to watch so please fill out our survey. On Facebook scroll down to Aug. 19 to take our online survey or stop by the library to fill out the survey in person. The last day to fill it out is Sept. 23.
■A Chili Pot Luck Supper will be held Oct. 12 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Pillsbury Lake Clubhouse. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share, enough for 6-9 servings.
