■It is a fun week at the Boscawen Public Library as they host two special events. Four Shillings Short performs a free Harvest/Equinox Concert on Monday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It will be held at the Boscawen Town Hall (basement of the Congregational Church). On Wednesday, Judy Abbe will lead an Introduction to Mindfulness beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the library. Judy has been a student of mindfulness for over 10 years and will demonstrate the benefits of mindful meditation. Dress comfortably and bring an open mind!

■Interested in sharing your stories and getting guidance on how to put them in writing? Members of the Writer’s Workshop are eager to meet you. Their next meeting is Sept. 30 starting at 6 p.m. at the Boscawen Public Library. The workshop is led by Sheila Mable, facilitator and former English teacher.

■Concord VNA medical services will be available at Boscawen Green on Oct. 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. Available services include blood pressure screening, foot care, medication education and nutritional guidance. A donation of $10 is appreciated but not required. CANTERBURYChurch celebrates

■Canterbury Community Farmers Market is Wednesdays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the center of the town, at the side of the library. This is Fall Frolic week! Look ahead to fall and winter produce. And come buy pumpkins and gourds from the Canterbury Elementary School fifth-graders raising money for their annual field trip to Nature’s Classroom. Live music from Seni Hunt.

■The Historic Houses of Canterbury Exhibit will be open again Oct. 6 and 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Save the date, the society’s AGM will be Nov. 3. ■Church in the Woods: Kairos Earth is celebrating the fifth birthday of Church in the Woods, at 92 Foster Road, during the weekend of Oct. 5-6. Campfire cookout, Saturday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.; Sunday 9 a.m. morning service, followed by Blessing of the Pies, and potluck lunch 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new meeting house will be open for viewing, and an afternoon trail walk will take place from before the last service at 3:00 pm. Kairos Earth will provide pies, hot tea, coffee and cider, attendees invited to bring other dishes, and their own utensils and plates/mugs.

■Weights and Walkers classes resume for the fall, Monday and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall. Walkers meet at 8 a.m. behind the Parish Hall for a brisk warm up walk. For additional information, contact Judy Nelson at 493-4207 or 783-9658.

SALISBURYOctober spooks

■Library story time is Monday at 10:30 a.m. Picture book The Adventures of Largo & Shelby author Joanne Randall will be visiting the library to read her book to children Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

■Conservation Commission meets upstairs in Academy Hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

■The town has just been notified by the Penacook incinerator that it is not taking tires any longer. Please hold onto any tires you may have until an alternative disposal program can be set up as we have no place to store them at the transfer station.

■Book Club this month is reading Will’s Red Coat by Tom Ryan. Books are available at the library. The Book Group of Salisbury Free Library meets the fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at the library.

■Salisbury Co-Ed NFL Flag Football is looking for both boys and girls ages 8 through 15 to play fall flag football in the Salisbury area. ■The Salisbury Recreation Committee is looking for donations for: Ice skates, helmets and hockey sticks. These are for children who do not have equipment to use on the town ice rink. Baseball bats and is always welcome. If you have any of these items, you may contact Mike Broas at 1mbroas@tds.net.

■The farmers market is every Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. at town hall until Sept. 30. At this time they have a few new vendors: DSigns by DS, which is hand-dyed fabrics; RJM Woodworks who makes beautiful wooden spoons and other wood items; Two Pines Farm with vegetables and starter plants; Cutting Farm with honey and maple syrup; Need for Beads with beautiful handmade bead jewelry; Harmony Weaving with handmade woven items; Over the Hill farm with jams, jellies and relishes.

■Every Thursday is Cribbage Night at town hall on Route 4.

■At the Salisbury Safety Building the Fire/Rescue and Explorers meet Tuesdays and Thursday nights. The Fire Auxiliary meets the first Tuesday of the month.

■As a reminder, the town transfer station is now open on Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. until Oct. 23. As always the transfer station is open on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please remember to recycle all your glass, no matter the color. It saves not only the environment but it saves us all money. Paper and cardboard and metals are also recyclable.

■A Senior Luncheon for all area senior citizens will be held at the Salisbury Congregational Church located on Route 127 across from the Crossroads Country store, on the first Thursday of every month. Activities begin with a free blood pressure clinic from 11:15 a.m. to noon. Lunch will be served at noon; followed by a time for fun and fellowship. New attendees should call Sandy at 934-3198 to sign up for lunch to be sure there is food for everyone.

■In upcoming October spooky news; The Salisbury Woods Haunted Barn and Trail to benefit the Salisbury Elementary PTG and the MVMS PTO is opening on Oct. 5 and these dates in October: 12, 19, 25 and 26 from 7 to 10 p.m., the cost is $8 per person cash only please. Please come and bring your family and friends it is a spook-tacular time all for a good cause. Walking through the haunt takes about 20 to 25 minutes and is not for the faint of heart as it is rated one New Hampshire’s top five haunted attractions! It is advised for children only if they like scary things, so maybe leave the little ones at home as it is not advised for children under 9. Of course, this is up to you they never turn away a child who loves to be scared.
