■A free concert featuring “The Green Heron” will be on June 27 at Allenstown Town Hall from 4-6 p.m. The Green Heron is a local bluegrass duo who write and sing bluegrass, folk, country and Americana music. There will be a food concession stand operated by Chef Keith Klawes and his band of ARD helpers. Remember your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the fun. ■Celebrate the longest day in the Northern Hemisphere on Monday, June 21 at the library. Miss Caroline will lead children in activities about giraffes, the animal with the longest neck. Library hours are Monday and Wednesday from 2:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. ■Carpenter Memorial Park has gone to the dogs! German shepherds and Belgian malinois have been training for tracking, obedience and protection competitions at the park. These are high-level working dogs used to produce military and police dogs. Some of the dogs and handlers at the park have been to the world championships in Europe multiple times. Events are open to the public, but not posted or promoted.

■Congratulations to Chichester students who recently graduated from Pembroke Academy. Chichester resident Leah Lacross played “The Star Spangled Banner” to open the ceremony. All the best to the Class of 2021!

■The Chichester PTO recently hosted a barbecue for the seventh- and eighth-grade graduation party. Thanks to the PTO for its hard work and kindness.

■The Chichester Firefighters Association town wide yard sale proved to be a success with nearly 30 yard sale sites. The association would like to thank everyone for the support and participation in this sale.

■Carrie and Steve from The Flannel Tavern in Chichester are bringing their talents to the Warner restaurant formerly known as The Local, which closed in May. Carrie and Steve plan to remodel and reopen the restaurant.

■The Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Company congratulated John Prickett, RN on his retirement from the Lakes Region General Hospital for 40 years of service. John worked in the emergency department as an emergency preparedness coordinator. John also worked with Chichester Fire and Rescue.

■Sympathy is extended to the Marston family on the passing of Tom marston. The Marston family has provided the Chichester School District with bus transportation for many years.

■Flags have been placed in all cemeteries on veterans’ graves. Thanks to Donna Chagnon, the Bob Shaw family and the cemetery trustees. New signs were paid for out of funds donated in memory of Peter G. Hammen. The sign posts were paid for by donations in memory of Audrey Lake Hackney. Brenda Boswak erected the posts and signs, along with cleaning the stones in Knowlton, Edgerly, and Morrill cemeteries. Many volunteers made this project possible.

■Library passes are provided by the Friends of the Epsom Library, a group which meets at the library the third Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Friends of the Epsom Library funds projects which might not otherwise be available. Patrons may reserve the passes for the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, SEE Science Museum, Strawberry Banke and Children’s Museum of New Hampshire for a particular date by calling 736-9920.

■Epsom Citizen of the Year nominations are now being accepted. Written nominations should include the name of the nominee and why you think they should be recognized as Citizen of the Year. PITTSFIELDFB Argue Rec Area open

■The B.C.E.P. Solid Waste facility has seasonal hours: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit bcepsolidwaste.com.

■The FB Argue Recreation Area is open for the season. The hours for the summer are Monday through Friday from 12-5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. If your child will be coming to the pool alone without an adult, parents will be asked to provide contact information. The daily admission for residents is $1 per person. A family season pass may be bought for $50. Daily admission for non-residents will be $1.50 per person. All persons entering the area will be expected to pay. Children under 5 will be admitted free with a paid adult. Use of beach toys will be allowed this year. They will be disinfected each night. The concession stand will be open. Please observe social distancing when possible. State guidelines will be followed when applicable. “Adult Only” mornings are being planned so they can enjoy the area, play lawn games, swim and socialize with other adults without the children being there. These will be Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon. If there is enough interest, there might be adult only nights. Call 290-4068 or 435-7457 during hours of operation.

■Swimming lessons will be offered at the FB Argue Recreation Area again this summer. Registration will be at the recreation area. There will be a pair of two-week sessions. If there is enough interest in a third session, one might run in August. Session one will be July 5-16 and session two will be July 26-Aug. 6. The cost for swimming lessons for Pittsfield residents will be $15 per child per session. The cost for non-residents will be $30 per child per session.

■Pittsfield Senior Center is open on a limited basis. On Monday, there will be a Drive Thru Summer Cookout. Call the center to reserve your meal. Bingo is planned for Mondays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. Cost to play is $1 and you can bring your own water or coffee. Cribbage is planned for Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Both of these activities require calling the center at 435-8482 to make reservations. Masks are still required and you’ll be asked to complete a signed waiver. Don’t forget that there are meals to go on Thursdays. Call the center for information on meals that are available for curbside pickup.

■The Library Summer Reading program, “Tails and Tales” will be offered starting Monday through Aug. 17. Visit the library to pick up a full program description. Story hours for families of preschool-age children will take place at the town pool at 10 a.m. on Thursday mornings. Activities for school-age children will be provided on alternate Wednesday mornings at the Drake Field Recreation program.

■Stop in at the library to view the restored portraits of Josiah and Georgiana Carpenter. The restored portrait of Josiah Carpenter will be at eye level for viewing through Thursday. Funding for the restoration project was received from the NH State Council on the Arts Conservation License Plate Program (moose plates) and the Globe Community Fund.

■Joy Church is hosting “Joy in the Park” on Friday at Dustin Park. There will be a free cookout for all at 6:30 p.m.

■There will be a memorial service on Saturday in remembrance of Ruth E. Strickhart, who passed away Jan. 7. The service will be at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church. Refreshments will follow in the church vestry.

■St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 50 Main St., will be selling hot dogs and have a bake table in addition to yard sale items on Saturday’s Town Wide Yard Sale day. Be sure to stop in as you check out all the yard sales in town. St. Stephens will also be open for worship at 9:30 a.m. on June 27, the first time in-person worship has been offered since before COVID.
