As of Dec. 12, New Hampshire led the country in recent cases per capita (93 per 100,000) according to the New York Times. In particular, it led in New England where cases are generally soaring (Rhode Island, 87; Maine, 73; Vermont, 71; Massachusetts, 70; and Connecticut, 57). And while 65% of New Hampshire’s population is fully vaccinated, we lag behind all other New England states (RI, 74%; VT, 74%; CT, 73%; ME, 73%; MA, 72%) and surprisingly, New York (69%) that has a population ten times that of New Hampshire.
So what’s the discrepancy? Leadership. And who is responsible for this in New Hampshire? Sununu. If you are over 65 in this state (or under for that matter), you should be very afraid not to wear a mask. Behind the glad-handing and cherubic face is incompetence. As constitutional jurisprudence has pointed out time and time again, there are some things more important than individual rights: the health, safety, and welfare of the community, state, and/or country, the people. And when the people become subject to manipulation to serve the interests of a few (politics), in our current situation, hospitalization rates rise. More coronavirus patients are hospitalized in New Hampshire currently than at any other point in the pandemic. Who cares whether he runs for the U.S. senate or for governor? Sununu should do his job now.
