Shouldn’t we heed these words of Noam Chomsky? “The main question … is what can be done to bring the crimes and atrocities in Ukraine to an end, that’s the crucial question! And there are two possibilities as recognized by anyone who has any concern for the fate of Ukrainians: move on to facilitate the destruction of Ukraine and possibly a nuclear war ot move towards a negotiated diplomatic settlement. Now that kind of settlement will be ugly, that’s a fact. It will have to offer President Putin some kind of escape hatch. It will have to be a settlement that agrees on the neutralization of Ukraine; and some diplomatic finesse to put aside for the time being the status of Donbas and Crimea to be negotiated at a later date and a ceasefire and withdrawal of troops.”

US and NATO-supplied weapons have made a huge difference in Ukraine’s defense against the Russian invasion. Now, there is a pause before the next phase, recognized as involving bigger, more destructive weapons, an escalation. The U.S. is rushing new weapons as fast as possible. What happens should a Polish pilot shoot down a Russian pilot? Russia might justifiable attack Poland. We are obliged to defend Poland. The war widens, towards nuclear confrontation. Our destruction of nature and the increased risk of nuclear conflict are both existential crises. Either we cooperate as one global community or face extinction. There are no winners in continuing this war. Humanity loses.
