■A free composting presentation will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Boscawen Public Library. Topics covered include what materials are needed and the many different methods for constructing an individual pile including what works best for yours. The workshop is geared for both beginners and experienced composters.
■Check out the Wagon Wheel Rug Demonstration being held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Boscawen Fire Department at 16 High St. Parking is on the north side of the building. Christine Ruwell, a retired teacher from Merrimack Valley Middle School will host the demonstration. ■ Master Gardener Donna Miller will present “Growing a Pollinator Garden” at the library on June 14 at 6 p.m. Insects such as bees and butterflies are helpful, and in some cases, essential, in pollinating many of our food crops such as apples, berries, and vegetables.Planting patches of flowers, wildflowers, grasses, shrubs, and flowering trees with an emphasis on the use of native plants can encourage and support natural pollinators as well as enhance backyard landscapes.
■The Evening Book Group will meet June 15 at 6 p.m. Fitting to the Summer Reading theme, Oceans of Possibilities, we will meet to discuss the book, “The Weight of Water” by Anita Shreve. Copies are available at the library and on digital resources.
■Elkins Café will host new author and former Canterbury resident Martha Levallee as she talks about her memoir “An Only Child No More – Discovering My New Family at 54” on June 16 at 2 p.m.
■Story Time will continue on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10 a.m. through June 15. Please join us June 14 and 15 for a Teddy Bear Picnic. After reading stories and playing games, we’ll have a picnic to celebrate the end of our school year. Please bring a picnic snack for you and yours (we will not be sharing food) and the library will provide juice. After a short break to prepare for our summer reading program, Oceans of Possibilities, the summer Story Time will meet on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. from June 29 to July 27. Come prepared to sing sea shanties, read themed stories and make a take-home craft. This program is best suited for children from birth to 5.
■Tunes, Tales and Tumbles will meet on Thursday mornings at 10 a.m. through June 16. Please join us June 16 for a Teddy Bear Picnic. After a break, this program will meet Thursdays at 10 a.m. from June 30 to July 28. If wiggling is your thing, come to this program for children ages baby through preschool, for a program filled with music, stretching, rhymes, stories and fun!

■The Planning Board, other commissions in town and the staff of the Central New Hampshire Regional Planning Commission are working to update the 2010 Master Plan, also known as the Plan for Tomorrow. This work was disrupted by the pandemic during 2020 and 2021. ■The selectmen have started planning for the creation of a Highway Department and are actively searching for a property to purchase located in Salisbury to house these services. The board would preferably like to find vacant land that is located on Route 4 or 127. ■Vehicle renewal registration information was mailed to those who need to renew in July, please follow the directions in the letter enclosed and the town clerk will mail your new stickers and registration to you; this only covers vehicles previously registered in Salisbury, not new vehicles or vehicles of new residents. Online vehicle registration for renewals and dog licensing is now live. See the town’s website under the department of the town clerk for that information.
■Library hours are 1 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, 1 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The library will no longer be open on Mondays. For more information on the library call 603-648-2278.
■In June, the library will have the “Readers Paradise” puzzle out on the table for patrons to visit and be part of the activity. Come and place a few pieces into the puzzle. Once the puzzle is completed, the library will frame, and place it on display in the library with a commemorative inscription.
■Story Time starts June 30 and runs every Thursday until Aug. 11 at 5:30 p.m. Caregivers and children can expect two to three stories told. Don’t forget to stay after for arts and crafts. The Summer Reading program, Ocean of Possibilities, starts on the same date.
■NH State Parks are available at the library. The pass grants admission for two adults and four children to any day-use park at no additional charge. Not valid at the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, the Flume Gorge, Hampton Beach State Park – South Beach, Wallis Sands State Park, or metered parking. The pass may not be used for camping fees.

■The selectboard will hold a public hearing to receive input regarding a tax deeded, town-owned property at 874 Battle Street. This is a seven-acre parcel that borders the Blackwater River and has a home and barn. The Board is preparing to sell the property. The meeting will be held on June 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the Grange Hall at Town Hall.
■If you enjoyed the very successful Webster Gardener’s Plant Swap last weekend but still have room for some more plants, the McLane Center (Audubon) is having a plant sale on June 12 from noon to 4 p.m Many of the plants will be from Bagley Pond Perennials, and there will be other shrubs and native plants to purchase.
■The Makerplay Mondays in June at the library will have Magformers, Brainflakes and other sources of creative construction available. Bring the children in for some fun.
■The library also has a new pass to The Fells available for any patron to borrow. The pass admits two adults and accompanying children under 18. Passes are not valid for programs or events for which an additional fee applies such as Fairy Festival, Hay Day, or Christmas at the Fells, but they are valid for programs that are free to members.
■The library is looking for volunteers for the Summer Reading Program (Oceans of Possibility). Children can sign up starting on June 27 and the event officially kicks off on July 11. For the children who sign-up there are two parts to the program: keeping track of their reading with some incentives and (for the younger kids) attending storytimes. Volunteers are needed to provide the stories that are read during the Monday (6:30 p.m.) story time from July 11 through Aug. 1. For more information, contact the library at 648-2706.
