BOSCAWEN Summer reading

■Don’t forget to bring the kids to the Boscawen Public Library to sign up for the Summer Reading Program. Lots of cool prizes can be redeemed using the stickers that are earned by the amount of time that they read. The six-week program ends on Aug. 6 with many activities until that time. On June 30, the library will host a Make and Take Crafts workshop beginning at 2 p.m. Lego Saturdays will be held on July 9 and Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon. Mr. Aaron is back to take us on a musical journey on July 18 at 6 p.m. Participants sing fun songs, dance, interact, tell stories, explore musical instruments and get creative together in the wide world of music. ■There will be a guest reader for Storytime at the Boscawen Public Library on July 13 beginning at 10:30 a.m. It’s not just stories but also music, songs, stretching, movement, and crafts.

■The Book Discussion Group at the Boscawen Public Library will be sharing their reactions to the novel “The Dressmaker” by Kate Alcott on July 12 at 2 p.m. The book shows the aftermath of the sinking of the Titanic tragedy, through the eyes of a brave young girl on her way to America to start a new life as a dressmaker. Additional copies of the book are available at the library for any patron interested in this novel.

■Spread the word about the Composting Food Program to be held at the Boscawen Public Library on July 12 at 6:30 p.m. Learn all about what composing is, why it is important and how to make your individual compost pile.

■Happy fourth of July! Town Municipal Offices and the Boscawen Public Library will be closed on July 4 to celebrate Independence Day.

CANTERBURY Rabbit tales

■The Tale of Peter Rabbit comes to life this summer at Petals in the Pines with an in-the-garden reading of this endearing classic, featuring Beatrix Potter, grouchy old Mr. McGregor, and imaginary rabbits! This special event will be held July 9, 10 and 11 at Petals in the Pines in conjunction with Elkins Public Library. Reservations are required and space is limited. ■Jane and Dave’s “Art and the Garden” pop-up show will be held July 8 and 9 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 12 Cogswell Hill Rd, Canterbury. Come see a selection of our garden inspired artworks in our tiny galleries. While you are here, take a stroll through our organic gardens and see what we have been up to. Sample some rose geranium scented iced tea & lavender cookies and take a peak into our studio life. We hope to see you in the garden!

■Musician Steve Blunt visits Elkins Public Library on July 9 at 10 a.m. Come on over from the town-wide yard sale and enjoy this wonderful performer!

■The Elkins Public Library’s Street Fair, with crafts provided by the Children’s Museum of NH, will be held on July 23 at 10 a.m.

■The next Trustee meeting is on July 11 at 6 p.m. in the library. There is no Trustee Meeting in August.

SALISBURY History exhibits open

■Town Offices including the Town Clerk’s office will be closed for the observance of Independence Day on July 4. The Selectmen’s Office will also be closed on July 8 all day.

■The MVSD School Board will meet on July 11 at 6:30 p.m. Please see their webpage for location and a Zoom option at mvsdpride.org

■In Salisbury Historical Society news; the Museum and Meetinghouse will both be opened with exhibits this season on Sundays between 1 and 3 p.m. Admission is free, and donations are welcome. They have new exhibits in both buildings along with old favorites, please stop by and see what the Historical Society and Museum has to offer. Docents, or tour guides, are needed for each weekend. Training is provided. If interested, please contact Cindy Owen at (603) 648-6586 to sign up. On July 19, we will host the Historical Society’s annual cookout and open house at the Meetinghouse on Route 4. The cookout begins at 5:30 p.m. and a business meeting will follow.

■The Salisbury Farmers Market is open for the summer season now through Aug. 29; hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Every Monday afternoon at the Town Green on Route 4 throughout the summer, except for holidays (July 4 specifically). ■The Town of Salisbury is now accepting resumes and letters of interest for one part-time position of Transfer Station Assistant, to assist with the various operations at the Transfer Station. ■The KLS Food Pantry, serving multiple towns including Salisbury and Andover food distribution hours is on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The location is The First Baptist Church, 461 Main Street, New London. They also take donations and are a 501 3c nonprofit organization.

■The Friends of Forgotten Children food pantry has opened the building to its clients. The pantry is open on Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m., closed for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon and reopens for clients from noon to 7 p.m. First-time clients should bring proof of residency for each member of the household. This can be your lease, a utility bill, food stamp. other agency approvals, or doctor bills. We also have a clothing pantry. WEBSTER Chicken barbecue

■Have a happy fourth of July.

■The Webster Fire Department is having a Chicken BBQ fundraiser on July 23 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tickets cost $15 and are available at the Town Hall or on Wednesday nights at the Safety Building. Please note the town is only able to accept exact change or checks made out to the Webster Fire Association.

■The Town Hall and the Webster Free Public Library will be closed on July 4.

■The Hopkinton-Webster Transfer Station is also closed on Monday but will have regular hours on Tuesday. The Swap Shop at the Transfer Station will be open on Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. Stop by and ‘shop’ for some goodies. If the shop is open, you can drop off your treasures.

■The Selectboard will meet at 6:30 p.m. on July 5.

■The Conservation Commission Meeting will be held on July 13 at 4 p.m. at the Town Hall.

■Looking for something to do on a Friday night that is close to home and free? Look no further than the next Free Friday movie at the Webster Free Public Library, which will be “Lone Star.” When the skeleton of his murdered predecessor is found, Sheriff Sam Deeds unearths many other long-buried secrets in his Texas border town. Our projectionist is taking the month of August off, but he and the movies will return on the third Friday of September.
