■Boscawen Old Home Week winds up on Aug. 28 with two events. Join Jeff Abbe from the Conservation Commission on a tour of the New Boscawen Town Forest starting at the North Main Street entrance at 10 a.m. (across from the former Marshall’s Gun Shop). There are two walk/hike options. Head to Twiggs Gallery at 1 p.m. for the Annual Poetry Reading featuring the Percheron Poets with special guest poet Grace Mattern. Readings begin at 1 p.m., pie is served at 2 p.m. and participants can present their own poems during Open Mic starting at 2:30 p.m.

■Meet the Author of Flight to Freedom at the Boscawen Public Library’s Book Discussion meeting on Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. Ellen Oppenheimer’s shares her story of her family’s escape from the Nazis starting in Germany in 1933.

■Volunteers are needed for Primary Election Day on Sept. 13. Volunteers must be registered voters, and be able to attend training on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. Election hours for volunteers run from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (give or take) and are looking to split the days in half, please indicate what hours you are available to volunteer. CANTERBURYNew book group

■The Old Man Boring Book Club will meet again on Sept. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Elkins Public Library after their traditional break for July and August. This group of interesting men and women bring history titles to share and discuss.

■New Sweet Grass Group: Enjoy reading nonfiction books that deal with current social issues? Come and share your views and reviews with like-minded readers in a safe environment. This group takes place on the first and third Thursdays of the month at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 1 is the first meeting at the Library.

■Elkins Café. Join Rachel by the fireplace at the Library on the first and third Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. for an hour. We start the time with fellowship and refreshments and then work into our program. Adults of all ages are welcome and encouraged to participate. We will meet again on Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. when Susan LeClair comes back to visit to tell us what she has been up to and lead us in some guided meditation. On Sept. 15 at 2 p.m., come to the Cafe with stories to tell. We will focus on the art of storytelling and share a tale or two.

■Elkins Public Library Speakers Series on Sept. 22 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This will be an evening program focusing on Lyme Disease in the Town Hall featuring some experts in the field of study. Lynn A. Durand, MD, is a family medicine physician in Concord. He specializes in Lyme disease, and is known among people in the Lyme disease community as a “Lyme-literate” doctor, one who understands the disease and can help those who suffer from it. Katina Makris, a world-renowned homeopath of 39 years, host of Lyme Light Radio, and author of many books, has devoted 10 years and over 200 presentations to tick-borne disease education, after her personal near-death journey from the illness.

■The Town Clerk’s office will be closed Aug. 29 for Election Training.

■Please note that the Town Clerk-Tax Collector’s office will be closed all day on Sept. 13 for the election.

■State Primary Voting will be held on Sept. 13 at the Old Town Hall, 1 Old Tilton Road. Polling hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

■Sample Ballots are posted on the Town Clerk’s page on the website, www.canterbury-nh.org, and they are also available on the Secretary of State’s website. The application for an Absentee Ballot is available in the office and on the website, or can be mailed to you upon request. The last day to apply and receive an absentee ballot is Sept. 12. ■Public Notice is hereby given in accordance with RSA 31:95-b, appropriation for funds made available during the year, that the Salisbury Board of Selectmen will hold a Public Hearing regarding the acceptance of unanticipated revenue from Senate Bill 401, payment for maintenance, construction and reconstruction of Class IV and V highways (Block Grant Aid) on Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Academy Hall; during a regular meeting of the Select Board. WEBSTERMeeting house event

■The Supervisors of the Checklist will meet on Sept. 7 at 6:30 p.m. in the downstairs conference room at Town Hall. This meeting is to make any final corrections to the Checklist for the Primary Election. This is also the last day to register to vote before the Primary Election.

■There will be a Restoration Celebration at the Old Meeting House at 1220 Battle Street on Sept. 17 at 11 a.m., the celebration will begin with live music and refreshments. At noon, Dr. James Garvin, a renowned architectural historian, will give a talk on the History of the Old Meeting House. The website is websterhistoricalsociety.org.

■The Webster Energy Committee is investigating the possibility of procuring an electric power supply on behalf of Webster residents, businesses, and providing related services. The idea is to pool purchasing power for the en ergy supply. Eversource and Unitil will continue to deliver the power. The community benefits from affordable rates, more choices and access to green power options, time-of-use rates, and new energy technologies. More information will be available in the next few months.
