The suspect of a high-profile double murder who was arrested in Vermont was returned to New Hampshire on Tuesday and will be arraigned on Wednesday.
Logan Clegg, 26, was charged with the murders of Steve and Wendy Reid who were shot to death in April during a walk on trails near their home.
Clegg was living in the woods prior to the double homicide and fled the area in the days after the shooting, police said.
He will not be brought to theย Merrimack County Superior Court in Concord, but instead illย will appear by video from the jail to face two charges of second-degree murder. Due to the seriousness of the crime, he is likely to remain in custody while awaiting trial.
The day before the bodies were found, Concord police detectives came in contact with a homeless man living near the murder scene who initially identified himself as โArthur Kelly.โ Following the murders, he burned his tent and fled Concord, police said in court documents. Police found bullet casings at the campsite that matched the ones found at the murder scene, according to court documents.
Detectives spent six months trying to track down his true identity and whereabouts ever since.
The investigation, which included searches of video, phone and bank records, ballistics testing and multiple trips to the crime scene and a nearby tent site, ultimately brought police to a Vermont library where Clegg was taken into custody.
Following his arrest and a search of his campsite in Vermont, police said the New Hampshire State Police Forensic Laboratory was able to determine that the Glock 17 handgun found in Cleggโs tent was a match for the bullets, fragments and casings found at the crime scene and the Concord tent site.
While in custody, Clegg waived his rights and agreed to speak to Concord Detective Wade Brown. He acknowledged living in Concord but denied staying near the Alton Woods apartment complex, using the alias Arthur Kelly, possessing firearms or being involved in the Reid murders.
Police said they believe Clegg acted alone and is their only suspect.
During his arraignment on Thursday at the Franklin County Superior Court, Clegg was ordered held without bail and voluntarily waived extradition. Concord police officers transported him from the Northwest State Correctional Facility in Vermont to the Merrimack County Department of Corrections on Tuesday.
He will be arraigned Wednesday at 1 p.m.
