Northwood Fire Captain Christopher Brown, described as a dedicated and valued member of the community, died suddenly this week at the age of 42.
The Northwood Fire Department transported Brown from Portsmouth Regional Hospital to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Concord on Wednesday afternoon to determine his cause of death.
“Throughout his years of service Chris exemplified leadership, courage and unwavering commitment to his community and fellow firefighters,” Fire Chief Mark Tetreault said in a statement. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to Captain Brown’s family, friends and his brothers and sisters in the Fire Service.”
Brown died Tuesday. He worked at the fire department for 24 years, starting out as a fire explorer. His father, Chuck, also served as a fire captain with the department.
“Chris was a dedicated employee whose countless contributions to our community will be greatly missed,” the Northwood selectboard said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with all who are mourning this untimely loss.”
