Oh, when will we ever learn
It is a sad irony that Charley Kirk’s life was taken by a gun. He was quoted frequently as saying, “I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights.” It was also sad that his memorial service became a political event where the president’s message was one of angry retribution. In contrast, Kirk’s wife’s message was one of forgiveness. Donald Trump clearly has no understanding that violence simply begets more violence.
At these moments, the 1955 lyrics written by Pete Seeger come to mind:
Where have all the soldiers (children) gone?
They’ve gone to graveyards everyone.
Oh, when will we ever learn,
Oh, when will we ever learn?
