Let’s have two democrat presidential primaries
I see that the DNC did not learn to respect New Hampshire’s state law that requires us to host a first in the nation presidential primary. The article mentions two things I don’t understand:
1) Implementing a $270,000 fine for any state that hosts an unsanctioned contest. I assume this is not a fine against NH, but will be a fine against the NH Democratic Party.
2) Preventing backtracking on penalties for states or candidates who violate the rules. I have no idea what “backtracking” is.
I suggest we:
- Hold a first in the nation primary in January accordance with the law.
- Invite the DNC to run a second primary on Feb. 8, the date they assigned. (Towns can help out, but the Party will be expected to run things, rent polling places, etc.)
- Candidates can come here in January (or any month starting now) to campaign for the Feb. 8 primary. Voters in the primaries may consider any source of candidate information.
- Should the DNC fine the state party $270,000, I, a libertarian, am willing to donate $100 to the state party to defray part of the fine. I will donate the same amount to some Republican campaigns, and also to the national Libertarian Party.
