SAVE Trump’s Sass Act
If you follow the news at all, you have heard of the “SAVE America Act,” which would more aptly be called the “SAVE Trump’s Sass Act,” because the intent behind it is to disenfranchise more Democrats than Republicans, skew the vote toward candidates who have pledged fealty to Trump and keep him and his co-conspirators out of jail.
The bill would (with few exceptions) prohibit vote-by-mail, the method of choice for nearly 30% of American voters (two Democrats for every one Republican), insert the feds into our local elections and give Trump loyalists the tools to purge voter rolls of anyone with a foreign-sounding name.
Until now, state control over elections has been a bedrock principle of America’s system of government that both Republicans and Democrats have defended. Voter fraud is already a federal crime, and one vote is not worth the risk of fines, jail or an ICE detention center. Rather than win on the issues, the GOP wants to win by suppressing the vote.
“If we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats — y’all impeachment’s not even the big concern.” That’s what GOP Speaker of the House Mike Johnson said to his Republican colleagues to scare them into voting for this otherwise unpopular bill. Trump, in true mob boss form, is now bullying senators to get them to pass it by any means necessary.
Whatever happens with this bill, make sure you vote in November (and in the primary on Sept. 8).
